Designed for versatility, our dye can be used as a standalone dye for bold, defined brows or post-lamination to enhance shape and depth. For optimal performance, mix 2:1 (Dye:Developer) with Activate from The Colour Collective.

Choosing Your Developer
A cream developer will issue a softer finish of stain on the skin.
A liquid developer will issue the boldest stain on the skin, but it can be difficult to use. Activate is gel-based and will offer a bolder stain than a cream developer, whilst being user-friendly.

Choosing Your Shade and Toner
The Fitzpatrick Scale

| Fitzpatrick Type | Typical Feature |
|---|---|
| I | Pale, translucent skin |
| II | Fair skin |
| III | Olive skin |
| IV | Light brown skin |
| V | Brown skin |
| VI | Dark brown, or black skin |
You will need to choose an appropriate shade of Gel Dye depending on the Fitzpatrick type. However, it is the skin’s undertone that determines whether modification/a toner is necessary.
Undertones
The skin’s undertone depends on the amount of pheomelanin and eumelanin present. Pheomelanin is yellow and red, and eumelanin is black. Depending on the amount of pheomelanin and eumelanin the body produces, we will see varying undertones within the skin, so whether the undertone is warmer or cooler. This will determine if you need to add a toner to your shade of dye.

It isn’t always just the melanin that we see that affects the temperature of the skin. Many skin types are also problematic in the sense that they have a skin condition, and that condition often displays a red hue, which is usually on the cooler side of red. Thus, creating an overall cooler complexion also.
Warm vs Cool Undertones
You will come across clients who may be the same Fitzpatrick type, but have different undertones, and therefore require a toner to stop a gel dye shade from pulling warm, for example.
Neutral/Warm
These clients tend to have a yellow/golden complexion with little discolouration and therefore display a canvas that boasts warmth.
Because a client may display an overall warmer canvas, the background that you are applying the gel dye to may affect how the temperature of the dye appears. A more neutral profile may pull a shade to be warmer. By adding 1–2 drops of Maple, you will cool the temperature of your chosen shade down to be cooler so that it appears more neutral on top of this skin type.
Gaaf
These clients tend to have a white and pink-ish complexion with silvery/blue cooler hues. They display a canvas that is cooler overall.
Because a client may display an overall cooler canvas, the background that you are applying the gel dye to may affect how the temperature of the dye appears. A cooler profile may pull a shade to be cooler. Using the shades without a modifier with these clients should be fine, but if the client is severely cool, by adding 1–2 drops of Pecan, you will increase the warmth of your chosen shade so that it appears more neutral on top of this skin type.
